David Warner hit an explosive half-century of 75 runs off 41 balls, and Mitchell Starc recorded his career-best T20I figures of 4 wickets for 20 runs, as Australia won the two-match series 2-0 at the Gabba in Brisbane on Friday, October 07.
Australia won the second T20 against West Indies with a brilliant performance. The Aaron Finch-led team won the first T20I by chasing down a total of 146 runs, while they successfully defended the target of 179 runs in the second T20I.
Tim David made his T20 debut for Australia against India last month. The middle-order batsman previously represented Singapore but is now an Australian player. He is expected to play an important role in the 2022 T20 World Cup, which starts on home soil later this month.
David Warner said that Tim David plays fearless cricket, which is part of Australia’s T20 “brand” and will be key to their success in the upcoming World Cup.
It’s A Godsend – David Warner
“Now he’s in our team and our set-up, it’s a godsend,” cricket.com.au quoted Warner as saying of David after Australia beat West Indies in the second T20I.
“He’s an incredible player and he’s got some serious power. It boosts our middle order. With his height as well, and strength, it suits us that’s for sure,” he added.
Hard-hitting batsman Tim David played an important role in the team’s victory at the Gabba on Friday. He batted aggressively, scoring 42 runs in 20 balls, including four fours and three sixes. Before this series, Tim David scored a quick-fire fifty against India in the 3rd T20i match in Hyderabad.
Australia will play three Twenty20 Internationals against England before the World Cup to finalise their lineup, with Marcus Stoinis also returning from injury. The first Twenty20 International will be held in Perth on Sunday, October 9.
Defending champions Australia will open their World Cup campaign against New Zealand on October 22 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Australia defeated New Zealand in the ICC T20 World 2021 final to lift their first-ever World Cup in the shortest format.
