Australia had won the toss and elected to bowl first. The match against Sri Lanka is quite important for the Aussies as it is considered to be a virtual knockout match for the defending champions. Their defeat against New Zealand has given them a setback as their NRR (Net run rate) is -4.45.

Sri Lankan openers were quite watchful in the power-play overs. Sri Lanka scored 36 runs and lost 1 wicket. Australian pacers made sure that they don’t give any freebies to the batters. The Defending Champions looked quite in control during the power-play phase.

Mitchell Starc Warns Dhananjaya de Silva

In the 5th over, Mitchell Starc was introduced into the attack. The left-arm speedster gave an official warning to Dhananjay de Silva for stepping out of the non-striker’s crease. Earlier Mitchell Starc was seen giving a warning to Jos Buttler for stepping out of the crease in the recently concluded Australia vs England T20I Series.

Great Chance for Sri Lanka

The Asia Cup 2022 Champions would be sensing that they can spoil the party of Australia. The Island nation earlier had received a stunning defeat against Namibia but since then they have been a force to reckon with. The team has shown great fighting spirit irrespective of the conditions not favouring them.

Australia knows that their all hard-work can get ruined if they lose the match against Sri Lanka. Skipper Aaron Finch needs to make sure that he leads the team from the front. The flamboyant all-rounder would be aware that he is under the radar as he hasn’t contributed significantly.
