Once, India went undefeated against Pakistan in the World Cup games. India’s display of complete dominance over Pakistan led to a one-sided competition. However, the situation has changed recently, at least in the last 12 months, and former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi believes it is all down to the approach of the current Babar Azam-led Pakistan team.
Until last October, Pakistan had not beaten India in any World Cup match and had played 7 ODIs and 5 T20Is. India also had a better head-to-head record in Asia Cup matches. However, Pakistan won their first World Cup match against India in the 2021 T20 World Cup and the Men in Green defeated India twice in the Asia Cup 2022.
Speaking to Samaa TV, former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi believes that India have changed their attitude towards Pakistan under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He said that they have begun to sideline Pakistan and have started competing with Australia, England, and South Africa. However, he feels things are changing as Pakistan changes their approach towards the game.
MS Dhoni Ke Daur Me India Apni Approach Ko Change Kardiya – Shahid Afridi
“Agar aap India ke team ko uthake dekhe, pichle kuch aarse main, Dhoni ke daur me agar aap dekhe toh unhone aapni approach ko change kardiya. Unhone Pakistan team ko…woh joh Pakistan-India hota tha woh khatam kardiya tha. Kyunki woh continuous jeetein jaa rahein the,” he said.
“Unhone soch badli apne, unhone Australia, England, South Africa…uss level pe unke jo top batsmen the unhone unke saath muqabla karna shuru kardiya tha. Unhone Pakistan ko, sorry to say, side main rakh diya tha. Par aab woh cheez wapas aa rahein hain and of course wapas ayegi. Approach bohot important he to decide aap apne aap ko kis level me rakhna chahatein hain,” he added.
The much-awaited ICC T20 World Cup 2022 is set to begin on Sunday, October 16 in Australia. Team India will take on arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on October 23. The Rohit Sharma-led team will look to seek revenge for last year’s humiliation against the Babar Azam-led team in the UAE.
