The 44-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra believes that the spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja will definitely be a part of Team India’s playing XI in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. However, Chopra feels that the left-arm spinner will not be able to pick “too many wickets” for Men In Blue.

Jadeja is one of the key members of Team India across all three formats and he is considered the best spin-bowling all-rounder in India at the moment. There has been a dip in his bowling form in recent times. However, he has been included in India’s Asia Cup 2022 squad and will most likely be picked for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 as well.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra talked about Team India’s spinners who could make it to the squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. He opined that the leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal will be the first spinner to be selected in the World Cup squad. He further elaborated:

“The second name on this list is interesting – Ravindra Jadeja. Jaddu will definitely play, this both you and I know, but he will not give you too many wickets, be ready for that. The mirror does not lie.

“If we see his numbers, he has played seven matches since the T20 World Cup, picked up just four wickets, average is above 43 and the economy is also close to 8.5 – it’s not great.”

The wicket-taking ability has not been seen in the T20 internationals – Aakash Chopra on Ravindra Jadeja

Former India National Cricket Team opener further said that the all-rounder doesn’t have the wicket-taking ability in T20Is and his Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 numbers tell the same story. Chopra also said that Jadeja is a good all-round package, but he is not a wicket-taker. He said:

The wicket-taking ability has not been seen in the T20 internationals he has played or he has not picked up wickets. The IPL also tells the same story – played 10 matches in the last IPL – five wickets at an average of nearly 50, an economy of 7.50 and a strike rate close to 40.

“Ravindra Jadeja, as good as he is, he will also bat and field, he is a package and is definitely seen playing in the XI, but he is not your wicket-taker. So don’t expect that he will suddenly start picking up a lot of wickets. The conditions are not going to be favourable to his bowling in any case.”
