Sikandar Raza, who helped Zimbabwe defeat Ireland, said the team’s objective is to advance to the Super-12 round of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Raza’s innings of 82 runs in just 48 balls, which helped Zimbabwe defeat Ireland by 31 runs, earned him the title of player of the game.
The all-rounder claimed to guide the game that Zimbabwe’s team was not only competing in the competition but also hoping to advance to the Super-12 stage and take on some formidable opponents.
“We didn’t just come here because we are happy to be representing Zimbabwe; the goal we brought was to get into the Super 12 and take some of the big teams and see where we go, said Raza. “When we qualified, as much as we were happy to be here, we knew that our journey is not done,” he added.
“I didn’t want to let any emotions get the best of me”: Sikandar Raza
The Zimbabwean claimed he didn’t want his feelings toward Ireland to get the better of him and that he wanted to bat as long as he could.
“I just wanted to bat. I didn’t want to let any emotions get the best of me. I just wanted to time the ball well and take it from there. I thought the wicket got harder, or I got tired, but the second phase of my innings was poor, Raza continued. “The only thing I said to Sean was let’s try to take the team as far as we both can,” he said.
Speaking about his outstanding performance in 2022, Sikandar Raza claimed that the only thing he tries to do differently is to manage his emotions appropriately.
“There is no secret to be honest. The only secret I can tell you is to try to channel all the emotions of success and failure into the right way and try to compete with the best in the world so we can represent Zimbabweans and put our flag among the best in the world,” said Raza.
On October 19, Zimbabwe will now play the West Indies, who dropped their opening game to a shocking loss to Scotland.
