The injured fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka was replaced by Binura Fernando on Sunday in the Sri Lankan team for the T20 World Cup.
The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 has approved Binura Fernando to take Dilshan Madushanka’s place in the Sri Lankan team, according to a statement from the ICC.
Madushanka was replaced after being ruled out with a torn quad muscle by Fernando, who has appeared in nine T20Is.
Fernando will fly from Sri Lanka to Australia to meet the rest of the team.
“The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the replacement player can be officially added to the squad,” the statement added.
Dilshan Madushanka was one of Sri Lanka’s finds of the Asia Cup:
One of Sri Lanka’s breakout performers in the Asia Cup was the very inexperienced pace-bowling attack leader Dilshan Madushanka.
The 22-year-old pace sensation Dilshan Madushanka tore his quad muscle during practise, ending his chances of playing for Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup.

After putting Namibia in to bat first on Sunday, Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup campaign did not go as planned as they gave up 163 runs to Namibia. In the first 13 overs of the second innings, Sri Lanka lost regular wickets and was trailing by 6 wickets.
A major upset for the team that just won the Asia Cup 2022 by defeating Pakistan and India in a valiant campaign would result if Sri Lanka loses their opening game. On Sunday, Namibia completely destroyed the team, going to incredible lengths to trouble the Sri Lankan batters.
