Sri Lanka Cricket Team against all odds won the Asia Cup 2022 and sent a strong message to the World Cricket that they are not done yet. Dasun Shanaka-led side showed fighting spirit as most of the experts had written off Sri Lanka after their loss against Afghanistan in the 1st Round.

Sri Lanka has shown a never to say die-attitude as winning the final of Asia Cup 2022 while defending is not an easy task by any means. Head Coach Chris Silverwood has been phenomenal in his coaching as he has tackled every situation. The team has shown glimpses of the old Sri Lanka who used to be ruthless and it won’t be wrong to say that Sri Lankan Cricket is getting great again.

Mahela Jayawardene was seen having conversation with ICC. “If they take the confidence of what they achieved in the last (T20) World Cup and then now at the Asia Cup, I think they shouldn’t be looking at anything other than going all the way and winning the World Cup,” Jayawardene said.

I mean that’s the attitude to have and this is a group I feel that will play with that no fear and no extra luggage on them either so just go out there and enjoy their cricket and play.” He added.

“The start of the World Cup is going to be very crucial for them as they need to get the momentum and get themselves adjusted to the conditions. But I’m very confident that they are capable of doing it.” He concluded.

An Uphill Task for Sri Lanka

Sri Laka Cricket Team would have to be at its best in T20 World Cup 2022 to clinch the trophy. The conditions in Australia would be quite different as the pitches would be bouncy and pacy. Sri Lanka would be expecting the likes of Chameera would be back who has bowls quite at an express pace.

Sri Lanka may have to play with only 1 spinner as the pitches in Australia aren’t that spin friendly. The team has shown that they can beat champion sides on a given day. Beating India & Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022 was a big achievement as both the teams were contenders for the tourney. It would be interesting to see whether Sri Lanka would be able to carry their momentum to T20 World Cup 2022.
