Team India led by Rohit Sharma left for Australia on Thursday morning for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be held in Australia from October 16.

A 14-man Indian squad flew to Australia after star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the tournament due to a back injury. His replacement will be named in the coming days. Mohammed Shami is likely to be the front-runner to replace him, but his fitness test will be crucial, as the pacer has recovered from Covid-19.

The official Twitter handle of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a picture of Team India members, including team management, posing for a group photo before departing for Australia.

“Picture perfect. Let’s do this #TeamIndia. @cricketworldcup, here we come,” the BCCI wrote as they shared the picture.

The 2007 champions will look to win the trophy this year after failing to reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup in the UAE last year. Team India gained some momentum ahead of the World Cup by defeating Australia and South Africa in their bilateral series at home. However, there are some major concerns as the team prepares to participate in the T20 World Cup in Australia.

India’s star batter Suryakumar Yadav, who recently put up some impressive performances for the team in T20s, took to his official Instagram profile to share a picture with wicket-keeping duo Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik, as well as captain Rohit Sharma.

The reserve players will also join the team in Australia after the end of the 3-match ODI series against South Africa. Team India will play their first match in the T20 World Cup against arch-rivals Pakistan at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne, on Sunday, October 23.
