ICC T20 World Cup 2022: What Has Sanju Samson Done Wrong To Not Find A Place? – Danish Kaneria

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team player Danish Kaneria has questioned star wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson’s snub from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad of the India National Cricket Team.

On Monday, September 12, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India’s squads for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, the T20I series against Australia, and the T20I series against South Africa. Notably, Rajasthan Royals captain Samson was not named in any of the squads and this decision of the selectors came as a surprise to many fans and former cricketers.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Danish Kaneria talked about India’s squads and said that Samson’s snub is unfair. Former Pakistan spinner added that he would have picked the 27-year-old over young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in the squad.

“It is a bit unfair for someone like Sanju Samson. He should have been considered for the T20 World Cup squad. What has he done wrong to not find a place? He has also been ignored for India’s home series against Australia and South Africa. I would have gone for Samson instead of Rishabh Pant,” Kaneria said.

Earlier this year, India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma said that Samson has got the talent and match-winning abilities. Rohit had also said that the shot-making ability of the Rajasthan Royals captain would be very valuable in Australia, where the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 will be played in October-November.

“As a team management, we see a lot of potential, we see a lot of talent and we see a lot of match-winning abilities in that individual (Sanju Samson),” Rohit Sharma had said.

“His back-foot play is superb, some of the shots you must have seen during the IPL, the pick-up pull, the cut shots, standing and delivering over bowler’s head. Those kinds of shots are not easy to play and I believe when we go to Australia, you need that kind of shot-making ability and Samson does have it in him. I just hope that he utilises his potential to the maximum,” he added.
