Team India have been knocked out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 following a crushing 10-wicket defeat against England in the semi-finals at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, November 10. India played their first ICC play-off match after losing their semi-final against New Zealand in the 2019 ODI World Cup. India have failed to win an ICC tournament for the seventh time in nine years, despite coming close again.
The Rohit Sharma-led team started the innings slowly and managed to score 168 for the loss of six wickets at the end of 20 overs, but England chased down the target in just 16 overs without losing any wickets.
English captain Jos Buttler led the team from the front, scoring an unbeaten 80 runs from 49 balls, while his opening partner Alex Hales made 86 runs from 47 balls. They put on 170 runs for the first wicket and never gave India a chance to make a comeback in the game.
India Don’t Have Fast Bowlers Who Can Bowl Quick – Wasim Akram
Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Wasim Akram said he was intrigued by India’s failure to win the Twenty20 World Cup since the introduction of the Indian Premier League in 2008. Wasim believes the IPL is to blame for India’s bowling woes.
“It’s not that India don’t have fast bowlers who can bowl quick. They have a few very exciting young pace bowlers like Avesh Khan and Umran Malik. These guys can consistently bowl at 145 kmph. But the problem is most of their young fast bowlers lose their pace after playing one season in the IPL,” Wasim said during a panel discussion on ASports.
“After one IPL season, Avesh’s pace came down to 135. So the BCCI should check why this is happening frequently in Indian cricket.”
England will face Pakistan in the final on Sunday, November 13 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and will be hoping to take revenge for their 1992 ODI World Cup final defeat at the same venue.
