Even though Virat Kohli did everything in his power to win the ICC T20 title—scoring a huge amount of runs, helping his team defeat Pakistan in front of a sold-out MCG crowd, and supporting Rohit Sharma after stepping down as captain—his dream was dashed when England eliminated India from the T20 World Cup in 2022.
The rejuvenated Virat Kohli, who celebrated his 34th birthday this past weekend, went on a run-scoring rampage in the Super 12 stage, scoring 246 runs in five innings, including three match-winning unbeaten half-centuries, for a mind-blowing tournament average of 123.
Virat Kohli Shares Thankful Message To Fans After T20 World Cup Exit
Virat Kohli in his latest Twitter post today thanked the Indian fans who came to support the side and also shared his disappointment in getting short of achieving their dream of winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.
“We leave Australian shores short of achieving our dream and with disappointment in our hearts but we can take back a lot of memorable moments as a group and aim to get better from here on.
Thank you to all our fans who turned up in huge numbers throughout to support us in the stadiums. Always feel proud to wear this jersey and represent our country”, Kohli tweeted.

On November 10, India and Kohli were given another chance to end the ICC knockout curse. Kohli rose to the occasion with his fourth fifty of the competition, but the Indian bowlers played poorly in defense of 169 as England openers Alex Hales and Jos Buttler made a mockery of the chase, finishing it with four overs to spare.
Virat Kohli has been through a lot over the past ten years, but he has always come back stronger than before. The Indian hero led the side to victory in every T20 World Cup, becoming the tournament’s leading run-scorer in 2014, 2016, and 2022. But in the knockout stages of every ICC, the team stumbled exactly when it mattered.
In terms of the shorter form of the game, Virat Kohli has reached the end of his career. However, when coach Rahul Dravid was questioned about the future of senior players Rohit Sharma, Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Ravichandran Ashwin in T20I cricket in the wake of India’s World Cup exit, he said that it is “not the right time to talk about or think about this stuff now.”
