Indian Cricket Team suffered a humongous defeat against England in the Semi-Final. The Men in Blue would be crestfallen as one bad match has ruined all the hard work of the team in the tournament. BCCI would be worried as once again the billion people will have to wait for the T20 World Cup trophy.

England on the other hand would be over the moon as winning the match by 10 wickets says a lot about their team’s dynamics. Before the encounter, England was dealt with injuries as Mark Wood and Dawid Malan were out of the fixture, yet the team did not panic.

Anil Kumble on Franchise Leagues

Anil Kumble was having an interaction on ESPNcricinfo and was asked about whether Indian players should be allowed to participate in Franchise leagues.

“I think exposure certainly helps. We have seen that with the kind of development that it has had on Indian cricket. For example, the IPL, where overseas players come in and the kind of changes we’ve had in Indian cricket has certainly helped.”

“In terms of giving an opportunity to a young player to go overseas and have a crack, then why not? I think it’s important that you need to have everything that you need to do that come 2024, you are well prepared to take on a World Cup event.”

Overseas Leagues Conundrum

During the post-match press conference, Head Coach Rahul Dravid was asked whether BCCI will allow Indian players to participate in leagues, then Dravid pointed out that there is a lot of domestic Cricket played during that time which coincides with leagues. He also gave an example of the West Indies Cricket Team where he said that same should not happen to Indian Cricket.

It looks unlikely that BCCI will change its mind. BCCI will have to arrange some special training camps so that the players get used to the conditions. It would be interesting to see how the next T20 World Cup fares as conditions would be quite alien.
