Former India National Cricket Team opening batsman Aakash Chopra has questioned the utilisation of the young wicketkeeper-batter, Rishabh Pant, in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final against Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday, November 10.
Pant was retained in the team ahead of veteran wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik as the Men In Blue made no change to the playing XI in the high-profile semi-final game.

Many felt that Pant has been retained in the playing XI to play the role of spin-basher. However, he came out to bat too late when the overs of spin were already completed.
Leg-spinner Adil Rashid ended his spell with the figures of 4-0-20-1 and Liam Livingstone ended his spell with the figures of 3-0-21-0.
The young wicketkeeper-batter arrived in the middle in the 19th over after the dismissal of in-form Virat Kohli. Pant was unable to make any major contribution with the bat as he scored 4-ball 6, before getting run out in the 20th over.
7 overs of spin has conceded only 41 runs, With short square boundaries – Aakash Chopra

The 45-year-old cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra was not at all happy with the way the Indian team used Pant in the match and he took to Twitter to express his disappointment. He highlighted that the England spinners conceded just 41 runs in 7 overs despite square boundaries being short.
“When you play an x-factor…you must find a way to get him involved. 7 overs of spin has conceded only 41 runs. With short square boundaries. Less than run-a-ball. #IndvEng #T20WorldCup,” the cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra tweeted.

Meanwhile, India faced a heartbreaking 10-wicket defeat in the match against England as openers Alex Hales and Jos Buttler annihilated the Indian bowling unit.
