India beat Pakistan by four wickets in the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli scored an unbeaten 82 off 53 balls to anchor the 160-run chase that became tricky after India were reduced to 31 for 4.

When India needed 28 runs off 8 balls, Virat Kohli smashed two sixes off the last two balls of the 19th over against Pakistan in their Super 12 game, and he turned the game on its head. Two maximums came off Haris Rauf, probably Pakistan’s finest bowler on the night, making them even more special.

I Have Seen What Virat Kohli Has Gone Through In The Last Couple Of Years – Ravi Shastri

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri praised Virat Kohli and stated that he got emotional when it was all unfolding.

“I got emotional when it was all unfolding. I have seen what he has gone through in the last couple of years. We all know the recent context. Did I have something to say to him at the end? Frankly, not a thing,” Ravi Shastri said.

We are a country with short memories; topi masters of the world! We flip, change in two minutes. Kohli knows what I feel. I know what he feels. What’s there to be said? Not a thing,” he added.

Arshdeep Singh became the first bowler to dismiss two Pakistan openers in the same innings before restricting Pakistan to 159/8. The 23-year-old trapped Pakistan captain Babar Azam for a golden duck and got rid of Mohammad Rizwan.

Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah gave Pakistan the perfect start by dismissing Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, and Suryakumar Yadav early on. Kohli and Hardik Pandya made an excellent partnership of 113 runs for the fifth wicket and led the team to victory. Pandya ended his spell with 3/30 in four overs and scored 40 off 37 balls with the bat. India successfully chased down the 160-run target against Pakistan with 4 wickets in hand.
