India will lock horns against New Zealand in their final warm-up match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on October 19 before facing Pakistan in their tournament opener on October 23. Prior to that, Rohit Sharma and Co beat defending champions Australia in the first official ICC T20 World Cup 2022 warm-up match on Monday, by 6 runs.

The Men in Blue also played two unofficial warm-up games against the Western Australia XI, winning one and losing one. With the date of India’s clash against Pakistan coming closer, let’s take a look at 3 players who are indispensable to the squad.

Rohit Sharma, being the skipper will definitely play in the opening 2022 T20I World Cup fixture against Pakistan. Rohit Sharma isn’t in great form of late but is the leading T20I run-getter with 3737 runs and has the most centuries in this format-4.

This tournament will be Rohit Sharma’s first appearance as the captain of India in an ICC tournament. Rohit Sharma piled up 43 runs in 3 games in the previous T20I series against South Africa. He got out for ducks in two games but played a good knock in one match. In the prior T20I series against Australia, Rohit Sharma smacked 74 runs in 3 games and also won the man of the match award in one match.

One of the best all-rounders in the shortest format, Hardik Pandya has been at his best since his comeback. He has scored runs, taken wickets, and has also captained the team in Rohit Sharma’s absence. Last year, Pandya not bowling at full throttle was a major issue for the Men in Blue. But this time, the 28-year-old is all prepped to take on the opposition.

Mohammed Shami was named by BCCI as a replacement for Jasprit Bumrah. The talismanic pacer will be back playing the shortest format after a long time but will still be the frontrunner to take the spot considering his bowling prowess. Shami has not gotten a chance to play in a T20I since last year’s World Cup but the pacer was instrumental in his franchise’s (Gujarat Titans) title victory. Shami took wickets with the new ball and also contained runs at the end and is expected to get the nod ahead of others.
