To establish himself as the head coach of the Indian team during the current T20 World Cup, former captain Rahul Dravid faces a significant challenge.

After India’s forgettable performance at the T20 World Cup last year, Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as a coach. India started adopting a fearless batting strategy under his direction, and it has been quite successful for them.

Rohit Sharma and company tried it in the Asia Cup but failed to adopt the same on a few occasions, indicating that it is still not well tested on a large scale. Many people said it will be interesting to watch how the Indian team handles losing early wickets against a top team in the T20 World Cup.

India developed into a formidable Test-playing nation under Shastri, as evidenced by their back-to-back Test series victories in Australia and their impressive performance in England. With former captain Virat Kohli, with whom the 60-year-old formed a strong partnership, the pair brought about some fascinating changes in Indian cricket, including a revolution in fitness and an aggressive strategy in Test matches. But they were unable to lead India to an ICC trophy.

I think Rahul Dravid is a very intelligent person:  John Buchanan

Now that Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma are in a position of power, the T20 World Cup has a majority interest for them. Before the tournament, Dravid tried several players to give them chances, but due to the frequent rests of many senior stars, he was unable to frequently use his strongest side.

Former Australia head coach John Buchanan discussed Dravid in an exclusive interview with News18 CricketNext and said it’s too soon to make any judgments about him as a coach. He asserts, however, that having Dravid as their head coach will undoubtedly benefit India.

“Well, it’s only a very young career. It’s not even 12 months, is it? I don’t think. And like all coaches and all new regimes, it takes time for it to begin to unfold, but I think Dravid is a very intelligent person, a very good communicator.”

“Huge amount of experience in international cricket works very well with everybody. So I just think over time, I think you will see the benefits of Rahul Dravid as head coach of India,” Buchanan told News18 CricketNext at the sidelines of Legends League Cricket.

The current T20 World Cup’s Super 12 stage, which takes place on Sunday at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, will see India take on Pakistan in a high-stakes match.
