Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson believes Virat Kohli will be crucial for India in the T20 World Cup.
At Melbourne’s historic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), India will play Pakistan in the tournament opener for the T20 World Cup 2022 on October 23.
Kohli made a brilliant comeback earlier this year, finishing as the Asia Cup’s second-highest run-getter, and has since enjoyed a prolific run with the bat. He will be looking to continue his purple patch in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia.
Virat Kohli’s form with the willow will be critical for the Indian team if they want to compete in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Australia. When it comes to playing in Australia, Kohli has a fantastic record in the shortest format and has mastered the conditions down under over the years.
The senior Indian batsman has 451 runs in 11 T20Is in Australia, with a brilliant average of 64.42 and five fifties. Kohli has the most runs by a visiting batter in T20Is in Australia and will look to add to that total in this year’s T20 World Cup.
“Virat Kohli is batting very nicely right now”: Shane Watson
Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson believes Virat Kohli will be crucial for India in the T20 World Cup.
“Virat is batting very nicely right now. The way he played against Australia alone, a couple of those innings, and the way he batted, he was at his best. Some of those shots that he played were amazing,” Shane Watson said.
“Virat is batting at his absolute best. He needed a break just to be able to re-energize his batteries. And you can see the way he has made a comeback into the Indian team. The way he’s batting, he’s going to play a key role for India in the T20 World Cup,” Shane Watson added.
India’s opening encounter at the 2022 T20 World Cup is a highly anticipated encounter against Pakistan on Sunday.
