Legendary India National Cricket Team batter Sunil Gavaskar is impressed with India captain Rohit Sharma’s remark on the Pakistan “challenge”. The batting legend said that looking at the game against Team Pakistan as a challenge would give Team India the incentive to raise their level in the blockbuster clash.

Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team are all set to go head-to-head with Babar Azam-led Pakistan National Cricket Team in a mouth-watering T20 World Cup 2022 clash on October 23 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Speaking ahead of the match, Rohit Sharma said:

“Yeah, look, I don’t want to use the word ‘pressure’ because pressure is constant. It’s not going to change ever. I would like to take this as a challenge. I want to use the word “challenge” a little more. This Pakistani team is a very challenging team. All the Pakistani teams that I’ve played from 2007 until 2022, they’ve been good team.”

Speaking to India Today, batting great Sunil Gavaskar said it will be a challenge for the Men In Blue to register a win over the Men In Green in the forthcoming World Cup match after facing a defeat in the last year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Dubai.

Definitely, if you look at it as pressure, you are going to feel the pressure, if you look at it as challenge, then there is always that incentive to overcome the challenge,” Gavaskar said.

“And I think that is a very nice way of the captain to put it to the public as well as his team – yes, it will be a challenge to beat the Pakistanis after they beat us last time in the World Cup, it will be a challenge against their bowling, it’s going to be a challenge how to bowl to them. The moment you put it across as a challenge, it becomes an incentive for everyone to raise their game,” Gavaskar added.

Gavaskar further said that Team India did the right thing by arriving early in Australia because it would have helped them to adapt to the conditions.

“No question about it. They have taken all the possible precautions to come totally prepared for this. Coming to Australia, getting used to the body clock is one of the biggest challenges. It sometimes takes more than 4-5 days to get used to the body clock and get used to the Australian time.

“That’s a big challenge when you go to Australia and New Zealand. When you have come 20 days before, they have been able to overcome it. More importantly, as a team, they have been able to gel together,” Gavaskar added.
