Ravi Shastri, a World Cup-winning all-rounder and former India head coach, praised Virat Kohli on Tuesday for hitting back-to-back sixes off Haris Rauf.
In India’s 4-wicket victory over Pakistan, Virat Kohli produced a 53-ball 82 not out while also hitting four sixes and six boundaries in magnificent innings at the MCG.
At the MCG, India fought back from 45 for 4 to successfully chase down 160 against a strong Pakistan bowling attack thanks to a magnificent effort from Virat Kohli. In a 113-run stand with all-rounder Hardik Pandya that dashed Pakistan’s dreams, Kohli struck 6 boundaries and 4 sixes while maintaining his cool.
When India needed 48 off the final 3 overs and the asking rate increased past 15, Kohli and Hardik were unfazed. Haris Rauf, who had two spectacular sixes in the 19th over and was undoubtedly Pakistan’s best bowler on the day, was the target of Kohli’s attack.
In the penultimate delivery of the drama at the MCG, India scored the winning runs, causing Kohli to lose control of his emotions and start crying. The former captain stepped in the middle and thanked the 900,000-person throng for supporting him as he received encouragement from Indian fans.
“It’s the best ever T20 game”: Ravi Shastri
Former India head coach praised Virat Kohli on Tuesday for hitting back-to-back sixes off Haris Rauf
“Without that temperament, he couldn’t have done what he did on Sunday night. It’s the best ever T20 game I have ever seen. For the first time, I felt a T20 game was like a classic Test match’ Ravi Shastri said.
“The ebbs, the flows, the pressure, the skill … it was a Test match of a T20. My cricketing takeaway from the game would be those two sixes against rapid pace in that situation. Unbelievable. Those will stay in my mind for a long time” Ravi Shastri Added.
In the Asia Cup, Kohli led India in scoring with two fifty-sixes and his first T20I century. Before the T20 World Cup, he produced game-winning innings against Australia and South Africa in the domestic T20I series.
