At the current ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli is performing admirably with the bat. He has scored 220 runs in the four games he has played thus far. In Team India’s final T20 World Cup encounter against Bangladesh on Wednesday, Virat, who already holds the record for most runs scored in the game’s shortest format, passed all previous record holders.
Virat Kohli beat Sri Lanka’s legendary batter Mahela Jayawardene’s previous record of 1016 runs during his 64-run inning against the Asian foes in the T20 World Cup.
Virat currently sets some sort of record in every game. He shattered the record for the most fifty-plus scores for India in ICC competitions held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar on October 23 during India’s opening match against Pakistan.
Virat Kohli 96 Runs Behind Sachin Tendulkar’s All-time Record
And when he takes the field on Sunday (November 6) against Zimbabwe in Men in Blue’s final Group 2 match of the Super 12 round, he’ll be aiming for another significant accomplishment of his 2011 ODI World Cup-winning colleague.
If Virat Kohli hits 96 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he will pass Sachin to overtake him as the top run scorer for India in ICC competitions. With a total of 2719 runs to his credit, Sachin has represented India in six ODI World Cups and 16 Champions Trophy games.
Virat, on the other hand, has 2624 runs to his name after competing in three ODI World Cups, five T20 World Cups, and three Champions Trophy competitions. He will move up to the top spot if he manages to score 96 more runs.
In 13 Champions Trophy games, Virat scored 529 runs; in 25 T20 World Cup games, he scored 1065; and in 26 50-over World Cup games, he scored 1030.
Virat Kohli now holds the fifth spot on the overall list of highest run scorers in ICC competitions. With 2942 runs, Chris Gayle, a legendary batter from the Caribbean, tops the list. Kumar Sangakkara (2876) and Mahela Jayawardene, a pair from Sri Lanka, are next (2858).
