England Cricket Team had won the toss and elected to bowl first at the MCG. Pakistan had a quiet power play where they scored 39 runs but they lost one huge wicket of Mohammad Rizwan. The Men in Green managed to put a below-par total of 137-8 where none of their batters scored 40 runs which was quite astounding.

In response to 138 runs, England was rock early as they lost 3 wickets for 49 runs in the power-play overs. Pakistan was always behind the 8th ball but tried to build pressure by bowling a string of dot balls. Ben Stokes was solid in his approach as he struck his maiden half-century knock of 52 runs in 49 balls where he smashed 5 fours and 1 six.

Sam Curran was the pick of the bowlers who took 3 wickets for 12 runs in his 4-over spell. The all-rounder made sure that he not only picks wickets but was quite consistent with his line and length. He has been quite magnificent at the death overs and in the tournament, he has picked 13 wickets.

Pakistan on the other hand would be dejected as they couldn’t get a big score on board. Any scored around 160 runs could have made the difference. Due to the injury of Shaheen Afridi, the dynamics of the match got changed which hurt Pakistan a lot as England was crowned T20 Champions for a second time.

We are going to enjoy this occasion and it is very special- Sam Curran

During the post-match presentation, Sam Curran was adjudged as the player of the match for the final and was asked about his performance. “I don’t think I should be getting this, I think the way Ben Stokes played there, to get a fifty in a final and he does it so many times for us, he should get this (PoTM.). We are going to enjoy this occasion and it is very special,” said Sam Curran.

“Big square boundaries, so I knew my into the wicket type bowling would work and try to make them hit square of the wicket. We felt the wicket was not as good as we thought it would be. It was nipping around everywhere and it was challenge to chase. I go into the wicket with my slower balls and try to keep the batsmen guessing,”  he added.
