Many supporters and detractors have blamed Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam for the team’s recent T20 World Cup 2022 campaign success, which came after two initial losses. Babar’s recent batting performance has also worked against him.

He got out for a golden duck in the first game against India before scoring four runs off of nine balls in the second game against Zimbabwe. He failed once more in their victory over the Netherlands, scoring just four runs off of five balls.

Fakhar Zaman, who had recovered from an injury, rejoined the playing XI for the victory over the Netherlands. Pakistan successfully chased down a target of 92 runs in 13.5 overs thanks in large part to the left-handed batter’s knock of 20 runs off 16 balls.

Babar Azam Has To Think About The Team: Gautam Gambhir

During the commentary of Pakistan’s game against the Netherlands, even former India batter Gautam Gambhir criticised Babar and referred to him as a selfish skipper.

“In my opinion, first, you think about your team instead of yourself; if nothing goes according to your plan, you should have sent Fakhar Zaman up the batting order.

This is called selfishness; as a captain, it is easy to be selfish. It is easy for Babar and Rizwan to open the innings for Pakistan and create so many records. If you want to be a leader, you have to think about your team”, he said.

The famous player Gambhir is not the first to criticise Babar during the current competition. The Pakistani captain has received criticism from players like Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar, who have suggested that he bat in the middle order.

Pakistan’s upcoming game against South Africa is a must-win contest. During the game against South Africa, Babar’s captaincy will be in the spotlight, and he will be looking to regain some form.
