Former Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Shahid Afridi has opined that the result of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe was not at all an upset as the Chevrons played great cricket from the very first ball.

The 24th match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 saw the battle between Babar Azam’s Pakistan National Cricket Team and Craig Ervine’s Zimbabwe National Cricket Team at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Thursday, October 27.

Winning the toss and batting first, Zimbabwe struggled and posted 130 for 8 on the board. Pacer Mohammad Wasim performed brilliantly and bagged 4 wickets. Also, Shadab Khan picked up three wickets and Haris Rauf took one wicket.

Chasing the target, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan didn’t perform for the second consecutive time in the multi-nation tournament. The middle-order batters once again failed to do well and despite Shan Masood’s 44, Pakistan faced a 1-run defeat as they could only manage to score 129/8 in their 20 overs.

After the match, Shahid Afridi took to Twitter to congratulate Zimbabwe for their historic win over the Men In Green.

“Won’t call the result an upset, if you watched the match you know Zimbabwe played top cricket from ball #1 and showed how to defend a low total on a batting pitch. Congratulations @ZimCricketv on the win, your passion and hard work shows #PAKvsZIM,” Shahid Afridi tweeted.

Former Pakistan National Cricket Team speedster Mohammad Amir was extremely disappointed after Pakistan’s defeat to Zimbabwe and he slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, Ramiz Raja, and chief selector Mohammad Wasim.

“From day one I said poor selection ab is cheez ki responsibility kon le ga I think it’s time to get rid of so called chairman jo PCB ka khuda bana hua hai and so-called chief selector. (From day one, I said it’s a poor selection. Who will take the responsibility? I think it’s time to get rid of the so-called PCB chairman who thinks he is the god, as well as the so-called chief selector),” Amir wrote.

With the defeat in back-to-back games, Pakistan are on the verge of getting knocked out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Now, the Men In Green need to win their remaining three matches and hope other results go their way to have a chance to secure a place in the semi-finals.
