SLC To Take Stern Action Against Danushka Gunathilaka If Found Guilty

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) launched a comprehensive investigation into the case after Sri Lankan batsman Danushka Gunathilaka was detained following accusations of sexually assaulting a woman in Sydney, and it promised to take severe action against the player if proven guilty.

According to the SLC, it was informed by the ICC that Gunathilaka had been detained following reports of him molesting a lady in Sydney. He is scheduled to appear in court tomorrow (November 7, 2022).

“SLC will closely monitor the proceedings in court and, in consultation with the ICC, will expeditiously initiate a thorough inquiry into the matter and take stern action against the cricketer, if found guilty,” the SLC said Anushka Gunathilaka will make an audio-visual appearance in the Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday after being denied bail. Without Gunathilaka, the Sri Lankan cricket squad, which was in Australia for the T20 World Cup, departed for Colombo early on Sunday. Gunathilaka was a member of the Sri Lanka T20 team, but an injury prevented him from competing.

Danushka Gunathilaka arrested on rape charges:

Danushka Gunathilaka, a 31-year-old cricket player from Sri Lanka, was detained at a Sussex Street Hotel at around one in the morning on Sunday, according to The Australian. The alleged encounter happened last week in east Sydney. After the 29-year-old lady claimed that she was sexually abused at a residence in Rose Bay, the Sex Crimes Squad opened an investigation into the rape claims against Danushka Gunathilaka.
