Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes that India will select only two spin bowlers for the 2022 T20 World Cup, which will be held in Australia from October to November.

India’s squad for the recent Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates consisted of only three fast bowlers and four main spinners. However, conditions are different in Australia and the former Delhi cricketer believes that the pitches will be more helpful for the fast bowlers.

More Than Two Spinners Are Not Needed – Rajkumar Sharma

“I don’t think more than two spinners will be needed in the squad. In Australia, you need five pace options along with Hardik Pandya as the all-rounder as you will get pace, bounce, as well as swing upfront. So there is no need to take an extra spinner,” Rajkumar Sharma said while discussing India’s spin options on India News Sports.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja may miss the tournament due to injury. As a result, Sharma thinks Axar Patel will be a strong contender to be selected as the ideal replacement. At the same time, he feels experienced leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has to be picked.

“Axar and Chahal will be the front-runners for the spots among the spinners. Both have experience and Axar also has the batting ability to replace Jadeja. Chahal didn’t have a good Asia Cup but you cannot write off such a wicket-taker by just one bad tournament.”

The Indian team for the T20 World Cup is likely to be announced this week. According to Cricbuzz, both Bumrah and Harshal have passed their fitness tests and will be selected for the T20 World Cup. With two series of three T20Is against Australia and South Africa coming up this duo must play every game to stay in the right rhythm. It remains to be seen which players and combinations will be picked by the selectors.
