When India entered the 2022 Asia Cup as the reigning champions, there were high expectations for Rohit Sharma and company. The renowned trophy has been won by India at the last continental championship in 2018.

The record-breaking victors of the 2022 Asia Cup, however, were eliminated early. After defeating previous champions Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the Super 4, Team India under Rohit was eliminated from the Asia Cup.

The most successful side in Asia Cup history, led by Rohit, managed just two victories in the present continental tournament. Strong title contenders Pakistan and Sri Lanka will face off in the Asia Cup 2022 final on Sunday at the Dubai International Stadium after overcoming the reigning champions in the Super 4 phase stage.

RP Singh Concerned After India’s Performance At Asia Cup

RP Singh, a former cricketer, predicted that Rohit Sharma and company will not attend the T20 World Cup as favourites to win the trophy due to India’s forgettable performance in the Asia Cup 2022.

“After their performance in the Asia Cup, India won’t go to the T20 World Cup as favourites. If you really want to earn that trophy, you need to do minimal changes in the squad and back the 11-12 players in the upcoming games against Australia and South Africa.

If you continue to shuffle, it will only cause more confusion,” Singh told India TV Cricket on Saturday.

Additionally, the former bowler selected the country’s team for the ICC T20 World Cup. In his selection for the championship match, Singh stated he would select spinner Kuldeep Yadav and out-of-favour pacer Mohammed Shami. According to Singh, KL Rahul, the Indian team’s starting opener, could not make the T20 World Cup roster.

“I will pick Shami because the pace and bounce will help him bowl back of a length which is his strength. I have also added Kuldeep Yadav because even he can exploit the bounce factor in Australia. KL Rahul might not be in the XI but will definitely be a part of the squad,” he added.

India’s squad picked by RP Singh for T20 World Cup 2022:

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Axar Patel, Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul, Deepak Chahar.

Reserves: Deepak Hooda, Sanju Samson, Ravichandran Ashwin.
