Aakash Chopra believes Yuzvendra Chahal will unquestionably play for India in the T20 World Cup in 2022. The former cricketer-turned-commentator expressed surprise that the leg-spinner was not selected for the Indian team for the previous competition.

When it came to the T20 World Cup last year, players like Rahul Chahar and Varun Chakravarthy were selected ahead of Chahal.

Aakash Chopra discussed the spin-bowling possibilities available to the selectors for the international competition in a video posted to his YouTube account. He stated the following regarding Chahal:

“Beginning with Yuzi Chahal In the previous World Cup, his name should have been present without a doubt as well. You and I both expressed amazement that it was not there. For me, it was surprising.”

“We declared that Yuzi Chahal must be used as soon as we lost the World Cup. In the 13 T20 international matches he has played since then, he has taken 16 wickets with an average of 18.1 and an economy of 7.1, demonstrating his exceptional performance.”

In IPL 2022, Aakash Chopra emphasized that the Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner was even more incisive, stating:

“Without a doubt, Yuzi is a wicket-taker. These numbers were international. Purple Cap statistics from the IPL show 27 wickets in 17 games at an average of 19, an economy of 7.7, and a strike rate of 15. He amassed a five-wicket haul and added a hat-trick.”

“He is your best real wicket-taker right now. In my opinion, there are two roles that a spinner may play when playing: one is economical if your fast bowlers are wicket-takers, and the other is controlling the middle overs and taking wickets. There is no denying that the man is traveling to Australia.”

In the three T20I matches that Yuzvendra Chahal has played in Australia, he has taken four wickets. This includes a best of 3/25, which he achieved in the opening T20I match against Australia in Canberra in December 2020 as a concussion replacement for Ravindra Jadeja.
