T20 World Cup 2022: No Doubts That Team India is Struggling at the Moment: Former India All-rounder Rings Alarm Bells Ahead of T20 World Cup

The T20 World Cup is less than a month away, and Team India’s situation is not looking good right now. The team’s performance at the Asia Cup 2022, where they failed to advance to the final, was dismal, and little improved for them in the opening T20I match against Australia either.

They still haven’t decided on their preferred starting lineup for the world cup, which is a major worry for them given how many games remain before the main event.

India Struggling To Find The Right Combination

The first-choice wicketkeeper is uncertain because Rishabh Pant played in the Asia Cup Super 4 games against Pakistan and Sri Lanka while Dinesh Karthik was selected for the T20I match against Australia.

Many things in Indian cricket have changed since the disastrous performance in the 2021 T20 WC, including the captain and the head coach, but they have also largely remained the same.

With the bat, India began to play a bold type of cricket, but they continue to experiment with their players in every series, which has begun to backfire. They are having trouble putting the perfect bat and ball combinations together.

Due to the uncertainty around the position of the wicketkeeper, the rest of the batting order, save the top four, has not yet been decided.

Important To Tick All The Boxes Before The T20 World Cup: Reetinder Singh Sodhi

Reetinder Singh Sodhi, a former cricketer for India, spoke exclusively with News18 Cricketnext about India’s recent struggles and how, in his opinion, Rohit Sharma and company must check off every box before the T20 World Cup in order to start the competition on a high note.

“There is no second thought that the Indian team is struggling at the moment. We thought that India will do really well in Asia Cup but it didn’t happen and against Australia (in the first T20I) our bowling struggled, while in Asia Cup our batters were not at their best, the middle-order is supposed to be very heavy but we struggled in that department,” Sodhi said.

He continued, “There are a lot of things which India need to improve and it’s important to tick all the boxes before the T20 World Cup.

We hope we will win the remaining matches before World Cup as it will boost their morale because Asia Cup performance dented it. You need to enter a premier tournament like World Cup with positive momentum.”

Jasprit Bumrah’s Return A Good Sign For India: Reetinder Singh Sodhi

The 41-year-old, who is now participating in Legends League Cricket 2022, believes that Jasprit Bumrah’s comeback would improve team morale but won’t completely address the bowling department’s issues.

“Not only one bowler, but you also need your combination to work – both spinners and pacers need to excel. However, the return of Jasprit Bumrah is a good sign for India, he adds experience to the bowling attack.

He has variations but having said that he didn’t play much in recent times. He is coming out of a long break, it will be interesting to see how he moulds himself in the XI after the return,” he added.

India’s four main players, according to Sodhi, are crucial if they want to win the world cup.

“In T20 World Cup, I think India need good form of Rohit and Virat Kohli with the bat, while in the bowling department Bumrah and Yuzvendra Chahal will be the key,” he concluded.
