The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team faced off Temba Bavuma-led South Africa National Cricket Team in their third ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 match at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 30.

South Africa National Cricket Team defeated India National Cricket Team by 5 wickets to become the top-ranked team on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Group 2 points table. This was South Africa’s second win over India in T20 World Cups. Also, this was the first time the Proteas defeated India in an ICC event since beating them in Nagpur in ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.

Earlier, India National Cricket Team won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. They made one change to the playing XI by including Deepak Hooda in place of Axar Patel. The Proteas also made one change to the playing XI by including Lungi Ngidi in place of Tabraiz Shamsi.

The Men In Blue were off to a slow start in the match as the first over was a maiden and in the second over only 6 runs were scored. In the next two overs, the Indian openers scored 8 and 7 runs respectively.

Then, the 26-year-old Proteas pacer Lungi Ngidi produced a two-wicket over by dismissing openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul in the 5th over. At the end of the powerplay, India were at 33/2.

Lungi Ngidi also dismissed Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya while Deepak Hooda was cleaned up for a duck by Anrich Nortje. The designated finisher of the Indian team, Dinesh Karthik, failed to get going and he was cleaned up by Wayne Parnell for 15-ball 6.

The star middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav played a high-quality knock and rebuilt the Indian innings. He smashed a half-century off just 30 balls.

Suryakumar Yadav’s sensational innings were brought to an end by the left-arm seamer Wayne Parnell in the 19th over. Notably, the 32-year-old scored 68 runs off 40 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes, and the rest of the batters scored 57 runs off 80 balls. Also, India posted 133/9 on the board.

Chasing the target, South Africa were off to a poor start in the match as they struggled against the new-ball bowlers. In his first over, the left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh picked up the wickets of in-form batters Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw. The Proteas captain Temba Bavuma was cleaned up for 10 by Mohammed Shami in the 6th over. At the end of the powerplay, they were at 24/3.

Then, Aiden Markram and David Miller had a 76-run partnership. Hardik Pandya broke the partnership between them by dismissing Aiden Markram for 52 in the 16th over.

In the end, Mohammed Shami delivered a brilliant 19th over as he conceded just 6 runs. However, David Miller remained unbeaten and finished off the match on the 4th ball of the 20th over, which was bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar. David Miller smashed brilliant 59 runs off 46 balls, including 4 fours and 3 sixes.
