Twitter Reacts As Ireland Pull Off A Huge Upset By Defeating England At MCG In Super 12 Stage Of ICC T20 World Cup 2022

The Andy Balbirnie-led Ireland National Cricket Team pulled off an all-time World Cup upset by defeating the Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team in the 20th match of the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday, October 26.
England National Cricket Team won the toss in the match and they opted to field first. England express pacer Mark Wood did a good job by dismissing opener Paul Stirling for 14 in the third over itself, but a brilliant 82-run partnership in 57 balls between Andy Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker helped Ireland reach the score of 92/1 after 10 overs on a non-friendly batting surface.

In the 12th over, Ireland lost the wicket of Tucker and after that, they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and got bowled out for 157.
Chasing the target, England lost the wickets of Jos Buttler, Alex Hales and Ben Stokes inside powerplay overs. Also, Harry Brook scored 21-ball 18 before getting out in the 11th over and Dawid Malan scored 37-ball 35 before getting out in the 14th over.
After losing 5 wickets, Moeen Ali brought in the fireworks and played a counterattack knock. He scored 24 runs at a strike rate of 200 before rain interrupted the game. England were at 105/5 in 14.3 overs and there wasn’t enough time to get the game restarted as there were already a couple of delays at the start.
England were 5 runs behind as per DLS as the par score was 110 and the Andy Balbirnie-led side were declared as the winners by 5 runs as per the DLS method. Notably, this was Ireland’s second famous win over the Three Lions as they had also defeated England in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2011 in Bengaluru.
With the win of Team Ireland, who failed to qualify for the main tournament in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, a virtual quarter-final has been set up between England and Australia.

The DLS method doesn't make sense – if the game had been interrupted at any point during IND v PAK, PAK would have won. It takes into account how teams have done till then, not the uncertainties that come with the sport.
But then, what's the alternative?

I hope Ireland are now bored of dropping catches.

Amazing result. Ireland brilliant, particularly with the ball, and England looked…really off, all day. Tucker, Balbirnie, Little all superb.
??????? chance of progressing to the semi-finals has now dropped to 31% and things are getting pretty damn tasty in Group 1. #T20WorldCup

Good win for Ireland – made better use of conditions with the ball in the first 10 overs and cashed in when England's bowlers didn't. A lot of sides would've looked to bat deep rather than try to win the game with the bat in the first 10 overs, pretty fearless cricket.
