All-rounder Imad Wasim, who played a pivotal role in Islamabad United’s charge to claim the PSL 9 title a few days ago, is all set to come out of his international retirement. According to reports from local Pakistan-based Journalists, Wasim spoke with the Pakistan Cricket Board after the PSL final at the National Stadium in Karachi on March 18th.

Those same reports have also suggested that Imad Wasim has resolved all his issues with the PCB and that the board is more than willing to welcome him back on the National side. It could be a huge boost for the Green Army just two months before the start of the ICC T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies where their main aim will be to end their ICC trophy drought since 2009.

PCB has given the green light to Imad Wasim

If Islamabad United were able to win their 3rd Pakistan Super League title 5 days ago then it was more or less due to Imad Wasim’s exceptional contribution in the knockouts. His performance and the impact from it was so crucial that he proved to be United’s best player towards the business end of the season. There was no one better than him during the 1st and 2nd Eliminator against Quetta and Peshawar and then in the final against Multan Sultans.

After his all-round performance came to the notice of PCB, Imad Wasim was contacted and meetings were held subsequently to maybe get him on board for the World Cup. The meeting proved to be fruitful with all the indifferences and disputes completely solved. The board has gone on to give him the green light to re-join the National side and he will be taking part in the National Camp as well. An official announcement regarding the same will be made by today or tomorrow.

“Imad Wasim will take his retirement back in today’s morning. Fakhta has said that the issues of national all-rounder Imad Wasim and PCB have been settled. Imad Wasim has decided to withdraw his retirement today, Imad Wasim has received a green signal from PCB. Wasim will also participate. Imad Wasim will decide to withdraw his retirement this morning.” – Qadir Khawaja wrote on X.

The 35-year-old wasn’t part of the Pakistan team that went all the way to the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia where they lost to eventual champions England. But with his inclusion on the cards for the 2024 edition, the 2009 winners will be aiming to take one step forward.

Imad Wasim’s performance in the PSL 9 knockouts

Perhaps after a very long time, we see an all-round performance like Imad Wasim’s. He was not in the best of forms during the league stages but he transitioned into a match-winner when it mattered the most. It all started with the match between Islamabad and Quetta in the first Eliminator when he was adjudged man of the match for registering bowling figures of 3/12.

Then in the 2nd Eliminator, Imad Wasim played out another MOTM winning 59* knock to help United prevail over Peshawar in a thriller to seal a meeting with Multan in the final. And on the day of the finale, Wasim claimed a 5-wicket haul by leaking just 23 runs and also remained not out at 19 as Sultans were beaten in the final ball.
