Dinesh Chandimal is part of the ongoing Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test in Chattogram. However, the Sri Lanka batter will not feature in the last two days of the Test. Dinesh Chandimal has withdrawn from the BAN vs SL 2nd Test due to a family emergency.

The wicketkeeper batter scored a decent knock of 59 runs off 104 balls in the 1st innings batting at No.5 position. The 34-year-old also etched an 86-run stand with Dhananjaya de Silva for the sixth wicket. However, he failed to fire with the bat in the second innings, losing his wicket for 9 runs.

Dinesh Chandimal withdraws from BAN vs SL 2nd Test

The Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test observes Day 4 on Tuesday, April 2. Dinesh Chandimal has withdrawn from the match on Day 4 due to a family emergency. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board (SLC) announced the news on their official X handle.

“Dinesh Chandimal has withdrawn from the team playing the 2nd Test match against Bangladesh with immediate effect due to a ‘family medical emergency.’ Accordingly, the player will return home immediately”, SLC wrote on X.

The Board also shared their support for Dinesh Chandimal and requested fans to offer privacy to the Sri Lanka batter at the moment.

“Sri Lanka Cricket, his teammates, and the coaching staff fully support Dinesh Chandimal at this moment of need and request that the public respect his and his family’s privacy. Today is the 4th day of the 2nd test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which is played in Chattogram, Bangladesh ”, the statement further added.

Sri Lanka set 511 target for Bangladesh

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is en route to victory in the BAN vs SL 2nd Test at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram. Batting first in the match, the home side Bangladesh has a gigantic target of 511 in the 2nd innings. Till 15 overs, they have lost 2 wickets for 52 runs on the board.

Earlier, Sri Lanka piled up a mountainous 531-10 in 1st innings. Openers Nishan Madushanka and Dimuth Karunaratne (57) and (86) gave a fabulous start to the batting. Later, Kusal Mendis (93), Dinesh Chandimal (59), Dhananjaya de Silva (70), and Kamindu Mendis (92) added amazing half-centuries to step up the scoreboard.

Sri Lanka bundled out Bangladesh for 175-10 in the 1st innings with a 4-wicket haul by Asith Fernando. Later, they piled up 157-7 in 2nd innings to set up a mammoth target of 511 for Bangladesh. Sri Lanka leads the two-match series 1-0 after two games.

Sri Lanka won the 1st Test by 328 runs

Earlier, the visitors won the 1st Test by 328 runs. The Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka 2nd Test will conclude the Sri Lanka tour of Bangladesh 2024. The series witnessed an ODI and T20I series earlier. Sri Lanka won the three-match T20I series 2-0. Bangladesh bounced back to clinch the three-match ODI series 2-1.
