Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto made one of the worst reviews in cricket history during the second and final Test against Sri Lanka. Najmul Hossain Shanto opted for a review for LBW despite the ball clearly hitting the bat on the opening day of the match.

The Sri Lankan team opted to bat first after winning the toss at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Saturday, March 30. Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan returned to the team. Meanwhile, the injured Kasun Rajitha was ruled out of the match.

Sri Lankan openers Nishan Madushka and Dimuth Karunaratne initiated a strong start against the Bangladeshi bowlers. The opening pair forged a partnership of 96 runs before Madushka’s dismissal. Madushka returned to the pavilion after scoring 57 off 105 balls.

The incident unfolded on the fifth delivery of the 44th over during Sri Lanka’s first innings. Kusal Mendis blocked a delivery from Taijul Islam, causing confusion among the Bangladesh fielders. Shanto was convinced that the ball had made contact with the pad first.

However, upon replay analysis, it became evident that the ball had struck the middle of Kusal’s bat. This revelation followed Shanto’s mistaken belief and led to the creation of a humorous appeal video that rapidly gained traction on social media platforms.

The FanCode platform captured and shared a clip of ‘one of the worst reviews ever’ on X (formerly known as Twitter). The caption accompanying the video read, “What just happened?”

Kusal Mendis missed out on a century with 93 runs, while Karunaratne scored 86 runs. Sri Lanka batters maintained dominance on the opening day, scoring more than 300 runs. Despite Bangladesh’s recovery with swift wickets, Sri Lanka retained control of the game.

The visiting team concluded the first day’s play with a total of 314/4 in 90 overs. Dinesh Chandimal and skipper Dhananjaya de Silva remained unbeaten at the crease. Chandimal scored 34 runs, and de Silva contributed 15 runs.
