Bangladesh fielders were caught on camera doing hilarious things while fielding on day 2 of the 2nd Test against Sri Lanka at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury stadium in Chittagong. 3 of their fielders who were standing in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd slip – Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shahadat Hossain, and Zakir Hasan were seen juggling the red ball not with their feet but with their hands. This particular moment, as soon as it took place, started trending on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

During the 121st over of the 1st innings when Khaled Ahmed was bowling his 17th over’s last ball, his full-length outside off delivery took the slight edge off Prabath Jayasuriya’s bat. Jayasuriya was batting at 6 at that time and Bangladesh needed just 4 wickets to bowl out Sri Lanka.

However, that howler from Bangladesh fielders prevented the wicket from falling down. After the ball took the edge, it went straight to Shanto, who was standing at first slip. In the first look, the ball seemed to go well into his hands but the Bangladesh captain thwarted and was not able to hold on to it. The ball then went to 2nd slip fielder Shahadat Hossain, who was not expecting the ball to come to him but when it did, he just happened to slap it above him.

His tap on the ball was quite weak and that’s why the 3rd slip fielder Zakir, despite making a diving effort, failed to put his right hand beneath the ball.

This well and truly depicts the kind of fielding level that Bangladesh have in their team. It took 3 slip fielders to make an attempt for the catch which still remained as a dropped opportunity. It was just another moment that took place in this heated all-format series where both the teams have played their part to mock each other.

First, it was Sri Lanka who brought out the infamous time-out celebration after defeating Bangladesh in the T20I series. Then it was the hosts who retaliated with the broken helmet celebration following their victory in the ODI series. Now it remains to be seen where the 2-match Test series is headed.

If Bangladesh are to save themselves from embarrassment then they have no choice but to beat Sri Lanka in this Test match. The visitors had claimed victory in the 1st Test by a whopping margin of 328 runs, thanks to centuries from Dhananjaya de Silva and Kamindu Mendis. Silva and Mendis had scores of 102 in the 1st innings each and then the duo scored 108 and 164 in the 3rd innings to post a mammoth target of 511 which Bangladesh were unable to chase down.

Bangladesh in need of a magical batting performance to put off Sri Lanka’s 531 lead

Meanwhile, Bangladesh are currently in dire need of some individual brilliance if they are to put off the lead of 531 runs taken by Sri Lanka after winning the toss and batting first. Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan’s opening pair will have to set the tone for the remaining batting tail to take over.
