Travis Head remained unbeaten at 146 runs whereas Steve Smith was batting at 95 at the stumps on day 1. The duo forged 251 runs for the 4th wicket partnership and took the game away from India. If India didn’t take wickets on Day 2 early. It’s fair to say that the game is far beyond gone for them.

ICC World Test Championship Final: “India missed a trick by not playing Ravi Ashwin,” says Sunil Gavaskar

Indian Cricket Team surprised many with their combination for the ongoing ICC WTC Final against Australia. They went in with the four seamers but what caught the attention of many was they left out Ravichandran Ashwin. The off-spinner is currently the No.1 ranked bowler in the ICC rankings and played an instrumental role in his side reaching the final.

Ashwin’s absence was quite visible as India failed to take wickets in the last two sessions of the game. Also with the number of left-handers in the opposition team, the off-spinner could’ve proved to be handy for the team.

Sunil Gavaskar was talking about the Day’s play at the stumps said that India missed the trick by not picking Ravichandran Ashwin in the team. He said that for players like him, the pitch shouldn’t be considered. He explained:

“India missed a trick by not playing Ravi Ashwin. He’s the No.1 Ranked bowler, you don’t look at the pitch for players like him”.

It remains to be seen how India will come out on Day 2. Early wickets tomorrow will be key for them. Australia won all three sessions on Day 1.
