The Oval And Lord's To Host The ICC World Test Championship 2023 And 2025 Finals

The Oval will be hosting the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle and the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023–2025 cycle will be hosted by Lord’s, announced the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, September 21.

The final of the inaugural edition of the ICC World Test Championship was played at the Rose Bowl, Southampton in June 2021. Kane Williamson-led New Zealand National Cricket locked horns with Virat Kohli-led India National Cricket Team in the summit clash.

The Black Caps managed to win the high-profile game comfortably by 8 wickets against the India National Cricket Team to become the World Test Champions.

Meanwhile, the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2021-23 cycle will be played in June 2023 at The Oval in London, with the top two teams from the World Test Championship points table making the cut. The Oval has previously hosted many high-profile games, including the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2004 and 2017 finals.

Also, the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London, which will be hosting the final of the ICC World Test Championship 2023–2025 cycle, has previously hosted many blockbuster games, including the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 final. The dates for both finals will be decided by the International Cricket Council in due course.

ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice, in an official statement released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, talked about the host venues for the ICC World Test Championship 2023 and 2025 finals.

“We are delighted to be hosting next year’s ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval which has such a rich legacy and an amazing atmosphere, which is ideal for such an important fixture on the calendar,” said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.

“Following that we will then take the 2025 Final to Lord’s which will provide a fitting backdrop to the ultimate Test.

“Last year’s final between New Zealand and India in Southampton was an engrossing encounter and I am sure fans the world over would be looking forward to the next WTC final at The Oval. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to thank the England and Wales Cricket Board, Surrey County Cricket Club and Marylebone Cricket Club for their support.”
