The Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) took place today (27th May). There were quite a few things that were discussed in the meeting and one among them was the white-ball series against Afghanistan.
India were scheduled to lock horns with Afghanistan in the short white-ball series right after the ICC World Test Championship Final. The BCCI was likely to field a second-string side and give opportunities to young players in the series.

Jay Shah said that they have deferred the series against Afghanistan and it could take place in September just ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023. Speaking to the reporters, he confirmed the development.

Jay Shah also confirmed that they have shortlisted candidates for the position of head coach of the Women’s team and CAC will hold a meeting soon to name the candidate. He explained:
“The shortlist for the (Indian) women’s team head coach has already been done. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) will meet soon and decide accordingly. We may have a new women’s team head coach before the Bangladesh series,” he concluded.
Earlier, the board had stated that the Diwali window was being considered for the second season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). But now Jay Shah has hinted that the tournament will take place next year and not during Diwali 2023 due to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 taking place in India.
“We will have a discussion with the broadcaster and decide on a window. We will be looking at a window for organizing the next edition of the WPL before March 2024,” he said.
