IND vs AUS: India Is Ready To Play And Win The Championship - Kapil Dev After Team's Asia Cup 2023 Win

Former Indian captain Kapil Dev believes that India is ready to play and win the ICC World Cup 2023. His comments came following the Rohit Sharma-led side’s title-winning triumph in the Asia Cup 2023. He said the Men in Blue should enjoy themselves and play passionately.

India displayed a staggering performance as they thumped Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final to win the Asia Cup 2023. They displayed magnificent performances throughout the whole tournament and played like champions, thumping almost every opposition.

However, a bigger challenge awaits them as they now will be heading into the ICC World Cup 2023. It’ll be the biggest hurdle for them as they will be facing a lot of challenges. Since they have yet to win the ICC trophy since 2013, all the eyes will be on them and with the event slate to take place in India, they will be hot favourites.

Also with the way India performed in the recently concluded Asia Cup 2023, they have raised the hopes of Indian fans. They played as a unit and even when they were under pressure, somebody stepped up and bailed them out of the trouble. The Rohit Sharma-led ticked all the boxes right.

Kapil Dev said that India first needs to make it into the top four and then they it’ll be about luck and other things. He pointed out that although touting them as favourites won’t be fair right now they have a good team. Speaking to PTI, he elaborated:

“I think if we can come in the top four, that is more important and then it will be about stroke of luck and everything. We can’t say right now that we are favourites, of course our team is very good. Heart says something else, mind says no we have to won very hard.

“I know our team, I don’t know about other teams, so I would say it is unfair for me to give a blank answer as far as India team is concerned, it is ready to play and win the championships…they should play passionately, enjoy themselves.”

Kapil Dev further went on to hail Mohammed Siraj for his staggering performance in the Asia Cup 2023 final. He pointed out how fast bowlers are taking all 10 wickets these days. He explained:

“It is wonderful (to see Siraj bowl). I feel so happy that nowadays in all continents our fast bowlers are taking all 10 wickets, that’s the cherry on the cake. There was a time when we used to depend on spinners, it is not anymore, that’s why the strength of the team becomes so good.”

Mohammed Siraj ended with 6 wickets to his name. He returned with the figures of 6/21, which is the second-best in the history of the Asia Cup. He also registered the fastest-ever 5-wicket haul in a spell for India in international cricket. The pacer took just 16 balls to achieve the feat.

India won their 8th Asia Cup title. They will now be seen in action when they will take on Australia in the three-match ODI series. The first game will be played on 22nd September.
