The 29-year-old India National Cricket Team right-arm quick Mohammed Siraj remembered his father after reclaiming the No.1 position in the ICC ODI Rankings for bowlers on Wednesday, September 20.

Mohammed Siraj climbed to the No.1 position in the ICC ODI Rankings after his stunning bowling performance in the Asia Cup 2023. His best came when it mattered most in the final of the Asia Cup 2023 against Sri Lanka.

He single-handedly dismantled the Sri Lankan batting unit and returned with sensational bowling figures of 6/21 to bundle out the opposition for 50 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Also, India chased down the target in just 6.1 overs and became the Asia Cup 2023 champions under the leadership of Rohit Sharma. Overall, Siraj bagged 10 wickets at an average of 12.2 in the continental tournament.

His performance in the Asia Cup and especially in the summit clash, helped him to jump eight spots in the rankings and overtake the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Trent Boult, Rashid Khan, and Mitchell Starc to claim the top position. This is the second time the pacer became the No.1 bowler in the ICC ODI Rankings as he also claimed the top spot in March 2023, before being displaced by Josh Hazlewood.

“Miss you Pappa” – Mohammed Siraj Posts Emotional Instagram Story

After becoming the No.1 ODI bowler in the ICC rankings, Siraj shared a post on his Instagram story that had a picture of him from the match against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2023 final as well as his parents.

He posted an emotional message with his Instagram story as he remembered his father and wrote, “Miss you Pappa”

Notably, Mohammed Siraj had got the devastating news that his father passed away when he was with the Indian team on the Australia tour in 2020-21. The pacer was also unable to attend the funeral due to quarantine restrictions which were in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic during that time.

Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj will be next seen in action when India will lock horns with Australia in a home series before the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. The matches will be played on September 22, 24, and 27 across Mohali, Indore and Rajkot.
