Shreyas Iyer notched up his third ODI ton and his first against Australia in the second ODI in Indore on Sunday. This was some comeback after the batter was run out in the first ODI for just 3.
Iyer walked out to bat at number three in the second ODI and looked to bat with intent from the get-go. He added a 200-run stand with Shubman Gill (104) as the duo scored quick runs in the middle overs.

Shreyas Iyer got to his hundred in the 30th over and looked to break free. Abbott foxed him with a slower delivery and completed a return catch in the third delivery of the 31st over. Iyer was almost back to the pavilion as KL Rahul walked out to bat.

Meanwhile, the television umpire KN Anantha Padmanabhan took his time and gave it not out as the television replays clearly showed that Abbott had touched the ground with the ball in his hands. Iyer was thus called back into the ground as the stadium erupted with joy.
“The act of making a catch shall start from the time when the ball first comes into contact with a fielder’s person and shall end when a fielder obtains complete control over both the ball and his/her own movement,” states ICC Law 33.3 explaining the mistake made by Abbott while taking the catch.
Iyer then smacked Abbott for a four through mid-on to add insult to injury. The bowler was taken aback firstly by the decision and then by Iyer’s shot. He was finally dismissed in the same over and under dramatic circumstances off the fifth ball of the over.
Matthew Short completed a clean catch and kept his hands pointing upwards which implied that it was a clean catch. Iyer and Gill broke a few records with their double-century stand and took India to a position of strength with the partnership.
