Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar heaped praise on young batter Dhruv Jurel following his gritty knock in the fourth Test between India and England. Sunil Gavaskar also compared Dhruvl Jurel’s ‘presence of mind’ to former India captain and wicketkeeper MS Dhoni.

Dhruv Jurel played one of the best innings of his career in India’s first innings against England at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi. The right-handed batter scored his maiden half-century in Test cricket. He significantly contributed to India’s first-innings total of 307.

The young batter scored 90 runs before being dismissed by Tom Hartley on the third day of the ongoing match. He fell short of his well-deserved century as India conceded a 46-run lead to England. He received accolades from all corners of the cricketing community.

Dhruv Jurel has Been Brilliant Behind The Stumps – Sunil Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar was impressed with Dhruv Jurel‘s batting and his exceptional work behind the stumps. Gavaskar highlighted Jurel’s game awareness and street-smart cricketing abilities, stating that he is another MS Dhoni in the making.

“Of course, he has batted well, but his keeping, his work behind the stumps has been equally brilliant. Just by looking at his game awareness, I want to say that he is another MS Dhoni in the making. I know there can never be another MSD but you know the presence of mind that he has, MSD also when he started, it was that. And Jurel has that game awareness. Street-smart cricketer,” Gavaskar said.

Jurel and Kuldeep joined hands at the crease, with India trailing England by 176 runs. The duo forged a crucial 76-run partnership for the eighth wicket, narrowing the deficit to less than 100. Jurel then added a valuable 40-run stand alongside No. 10 Akash Deep.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav managed to score 28 runs off 131 deliveries, with the help of two boundaries. Kuldeep fell victim to James Anderson after an inside edge crashed onto the stumps. Anderson completed his 698th wicket for the England team in Test cricket.

Dhruv Jurel Will Go On To Score Many Centuries – Sunil Gavaskar

During the Lunch break, Gavaskar highlighted that Dhruv Jurel could score more centuries in the future if he maintains his current batting form. He expressed confidence that Jurel possesses the necessary skills to become the next superstar for India.

“Today he missed out on a century but make no mistake this young man will go on to score many centuries because of his presence of mind,” Gavaskar said during the Lunch break.

Jurel made his debut for India in the third Test against England in Rajkot. The right-handed batter scored 46 runs in India’s first innings and contributed to the team crossing the 400-run mark. He also played a key role in a brilliant runout to dismiss Ben Duckett.

Jurel, son of Kargil war veteran Nem Singh Jurel, was encouraged by his father to pursue a career in the Indian Army. However, his passion for cricket led him in a different direction. He chose to excel in the sport rather than follow the military path envisioned by his father.
