India won the fourth Test of the five-match series against England which was being played at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi and sealed the series with an unassailable lead of 3-1. Rohit Sharma expressed his delight with the performance of the team as he continued his unbeaten run as the Indian skipper in bilateral Tests. Rohit Sharma talked about the youngsters making a debut in this series and the way they have performed.

Rohit Sharma said that the Test series has been a very hard-fought battle and he feels delighted to be on the right side of it. He talked about the challenges that were thrown at the team during the series and the way they responded to it in a calm and composed manner. Rohit Sharma lauded Dhruv Jurel for his 90 in the first innings and then again for a resilient and patient 39 off 77.

“It’s been a very hard-fought series, so to come on the right side of it feels very good. A lot of challenges were thrown at us but we responded and were quite composed. These guys want to be here, growing up in the domestic circuit, local club cricket, and coming here. It’s a big challenge, but the responses I get are encouraging,” said Rohit Sharma in the post-match presentation.

“We have to give them the environment they want to be in, we can’t just keep talking to them, they are very clear about what they want to do. Jurel showed composure, calmness and shots all around the wicket. His first-inning 90 was crucial, and again in the second innings along with Gill,” he added.

Rohit Sharma also talked about the absence of key players like Virat Kohli and KL Rahul

“It’s always not pleasing when you miss key players, but there’s nothing we can do as a group. To fill their shoes was not easy, but they responded really well. When you make a mark like that, you hold yourself in a good position for a long career. This will motivate them. We turn up to every Test thinking we want to win, this is a great series, want to turn up in fifth and put our best foot forward. Confident we will put on a good show,” mentioned Rohit Sharma when asked about the absence of Virat Kohli.
England won the toss and elected to bat first scoring 353 in the first innings. Joe Root threw his Bazball away and was back to his natural game scoring an unbeaten 122 off 274 balls in the first innings. India put 307 on the board in response as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel starred with their respective 73 (117) and 90 (149). England collapsed for 145 in their second innings as Ravichandran Ashwin and Kuldeep Yadav wreaked havoc taking figures of 5/51 and 4/22 respectively.
India easily chased the 192-run target and sealed the series with a five-wicket win in Ranchi. Dhruv Jurel was awarded the Player of The Match for his terrific performance with the bat as he scored 90 (149) and 39 (77) in the respective innings. India and England will now face each other in the fifth and final Test match of the series at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
