England’s Test head coach and former New Zealand batsman Brendon McCullum has transformed the English team in the red-ball format with his ‘bazball’ tactics, which means playing the longer format with aggressive and attacking intent. England have won 14 of the 20 Tests they have played since McCullum took over as the Test head coach of England. Former England pacer Stuart Broad also feels the tactics have proved to be a success in all the countries.

Stuart Broad stated that England‘s performance in Hyderabad against India was the best in the period of the last 2 years. Broad stated that England did well in other countries such as New Zealand and Pakistan. He added that ‘bazball’ is a mentality that is driving the game forward.

Stuart Broad gives verdict on England’s ‘bazball’ tactics

Stuart Broad said, as quoted by IANS, “I love it. The series is one-all (1-1) at the moment, but I think Bazball has proven that it can work in every country. I think Hyderabad’s performance is the most impressive performance of the England team. We won in Pakistan 3-0, we played well in New Zealand. So Bazball is a mentality that is driving the game forward.”

England whitewashed Pakistan in Pakistan in December 2022, whereas they were able to level the two-match Test series in New Zealand. Under Ben Stokes, the Three Lions are yet to lose a Test series and have also given tough competition to the Indian cricket team in the first two Tests of the five-match series.

England defeated India by 28 runs in the first Test in Hyderabad courtesy of match-winning performances from Tom Hartley and Ollie Pope. However, the hosts were able to make a decent comeback and won the second Test match by 106 runs.

Now the caravan of the Test series has moved to Rajkot where the third Test match of the series will be played from February 15. England went to Abu Dhabi after the second Test and are scheduled to arrive in Rajkot on Monday. India will also arrive for practice on the same day.

The Indian team will be missing Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli from the last three Tests. Iyer has been excluded from the squad due to his poor performance whereas, Kohli will be missing out on the series due to personal reasons.

India have a lot of problems to address ahead of the third IND vs ENG Test match. The middle order has not been able to perform in the first two games due to which the hosts have not been able to bat as per their full potential. Also, the form of KS Bharat who was included in the team for KL Rahul, is a matter of concern for the Indian management.

The Indian team will want to address all the issues ahead of the third Test. KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have found a way back into the team but are subjected to fitness. India may include Sarfaraz Khan in the team if Rahul is unfit. Also, Jasprit Bumrah can be rested and Mohammed Siraj may take his place for the third Test.
