IND vs ENG Scorecard, 4th Test Highlights 2024: Dhruv Jurel guides India to 5-wicket victory in Ranchi, India secure series win

Team India secured a comfortable five-wicket victory in the fourth Test of the ongoing five-match series against England at home. Despite the absence of key players, Rohit Sharma-led India secured the red-ball series against the Ben Stokes-led side with a margin of 3-1.

Dhruv Juel was named Player of the Match award for his crucial contributions with the bat. The right-handed batter scored 90 runs in the first innings followed by an unbeaten 39 runs in the second. Notably, he made his Test debut for India during the third Test in Ranchi.

Joe Root Regained Batting Form During First Innings

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first in a must-win game. However, the decision backfired, as the England side lost five wickets in the first session. Akash Deep ran through England’s top order, dismissing Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, and Zak Crawley.

Joe Root capitalized on the absence of Jasprit Bumrah in India’s attack and anchored the innings. Root formed crucial partnerships with Ben Foakes and Ollie Robinson to help the team reach a good score. He scored an unbeaten 122 runs off 274 balls, including 10 fours.

Ravindra Jadeja took four wickets as England was bowled out for 353 runs in the first innings. Akash Deep claimed three wickets, while Mohammed Siraj took two, and Ravichandran Ashwin secured one. However, Kuldeep Yadav went wicketless in his bowling spell.

Dhruv Jurel Guided India To Narrow Deficit To 46 Runs

In response, the Indian batters struggled against English spinners on the second day. The Indian team collapsed from 86 for 1 to 176 for 7 late on Day 2. However, Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav rescued the home team with a valuable partnership for the eighth wicket.

James Anderson broke the 76-run partnership in the first session of the third day. Jurel then went on to add partnerships of 40 and 14 runs with Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj, respectively. Tom Hartley bowled Dhruv Jurel to dismiss the Indian team for 307 runs.

Shoaib Bashir claimed his maiden five-wicket haul in India’s first innings. Bashir also became the second youngest bowler to achieve this feat for the Three Lions. Additionally, Tom Hartley picked up three wickets, while James Anderson contributed with two scalps.

Ravichandran Ashwin Secured 35th Five Wicket Haul

The visiting team failed to capitalize on a substantial 46-run first innings lead. They were bowled out for just 145 runs in their second innings on the third day. Zak Crawley scored 60 runs off 91 balls, including seven fours. Apart from Crawley, no other batter made an impact.

Ravichandran Ashwin completed his 35th five-wicket haul in England’s innings. The veteran off-spinner finished with five wickets for 51 runs. Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets for 22 runs. Ravindra Jadeja took one wicket, while Akash Deep did not come to bowl.

Shubman Gill Rescued India Team After Collapse

Chasing 192 runs, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal added an 84-run partnership for the first wicket. However, the team lost five wickets in quick succession, collapsing to 120/5. Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel completed the run chase without losing further wickets.
