While Jasprit Bumrah is expected to play the upcoming third IND vs ENG Test, the fast-bowler was yet to join the Indian team on Tuesday (February 13). Recent media reports stated that the right-arm pacer is likely to be rested for the crucial game.
However, reports later claimed that the Indian team management has changed its plans regarding the bowler’s workload management and he is set to play the third Test. As per the reports, he is likely to be rested for one of the last two Tests of the five-match series.
The Indian team was training on Tuesday for the third Test against England, scheduled to be played from Thursday in Rajkot. According to Cricbuzz, Jasprit Bumrah was a notable absentee. The report further claimed that the fast bowler was yet to join his teammates in Rajkot.
The delayed arrival, however, is unlikely to rule him out of the Test. As per the report, he was to join his teammates on Tuesday night before taking part in training on Wednesday. The India pace spearhead is expected to play the third Test and he will be keen to extend his stunning run in the series.
Jasprit Bumrah creates history:
Earlier this month, Jasprit Bumrah created history by becoming the first-ever Indian bowler to achieve the number one rank in the ICC Test Rankings. He achieved the feat after his sensational performance in the second Test in Vishakhapatnam.
The fast bowler starred with the ball to fire India to a series-leveling win. He picked up six wickets in the first innings before claiming three more in the second as India thrashed the visitors by 106 runs to draw level in the five-match series. Jasprit Bumrah was also adjudged the Player of the Match for his sensational display.
Meanwhile, the report from Cricbuzz also stated that the Indian team management is yet to decide on whether to go with four bowlers or five bowlers in the third Test. India have used the five-bowler strategy in the series so far although the second pacer has made very little contribution. While Mohammed Siraj bowled only 11 overs in the first Test, Mukesh Kumar bowled 12 overs in the second.
With the likes of KL Rahul and Virat Kohli not available, India will be keen to bolster their batting department and it could see them play the upcoming game with four bowlers.
