England bowler James Anderson is getting trolled for his statement about chasing down 399 runs against India within 60-70 overs on Day 4 in Vizag. However, England were wrapped up for 292 runs in 69.2 overs, which helped India achieve a win of 106 runs and also level the five-match Test series by 1-1. The Indian bowlers proved to be too much for the visitors, as pacer Jasprit Bumrah was adjudged the Player of the Match for picking 9 wickets in the match.
Ahead of Day 4 of the IND vs ENG 2nd Test match, while speaking in the press conference, James Anderson stated that England had 180 overs left to chase down 332 runs after England finished Day 3 at 67/7 against a target of 399 runs. Anderson had stated that the visitors will play with an attacking approach, and try to chase down the target within 60-70 overs on Day 4. Anderson added that the team’s approach and way of playing will remain the same despite the fact of winning or losing games.
He said, “The chat last night from the coach (Brendon McCullum) was that if they get 600, we were going to go for it. It makes it very clear to everyone that we will try to do it tomorrow. I know there are 180 overs left in the game, but we will try to do it in 60 or 70. That’s the way we play, and we saw that tonight with Rehan (Ahmed) going out and playing his shots.”
James Anderson had a decent match with the ball and picked up 5 wickets in the whole match. Anderson is now just five wickets behind from completing 700 Test wickets. Anderson will join the likes of Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan. Anderson showcased brilliant examples of line and length due to which he was able to control the flow of runs and he was also economical.
The Indian cricket team, on the other hand, showcased brilliant examples of batting and bowling. While it was Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill who shined with the bat Jasprit Bumrah was the highlight of the Indian team with the ball.
