Former Team India head coach Ravi Shastri brutally mocked England star batter Joe Root for his poor batting performances in the ongoing Test series. Ravi Shastri humorously stated that Joe Root has bowled more overs than runs scored in the red-ball series so far.
The former England skipper has been struggling to score in India, as he scored 70 runs across five innings at a disappointing average of 14. The right-handed batter scored 18 runs in the first innings of the third Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
Despite his batting struggles, the 33-year-old has made an impact with the ball so far in the series, taking seven wickets at an average of 42.14. He took four wickets for 79 runs in the first innings in Hyderabad, but couldn’t replicate that performance in subsequent innings.

During commentary for the India-England Test match on Saturday, February 17, Ravi Shastri pointed out Joe Root‘s batting struggles, mentioning that the England cricketer bowled more overs than he scored runs in the series.
“Joe Root has bowled 89 overs in this Test series which is more than the runs he scored,” Ravi Shastri said during India’s second innings.

After surviving Day 2’s closing stages, Root managed to add just nine runs to his overnight score. The right-handed batter’s recent dismissal by Bumrah is the third instance in this series and the ninth overall in his career, showcasing his struggle against the pacer.
The 33-year-old batter began the series with a brisk 29-run knock in Hyderabad but struggled with two single-digit scores in the next two innings. The ace batter managed only 16 runs during England’s chase in Vishakapatnam, where they suffered a 106-run defeat.
The former skipper notched a double century in Chennai during his previous India tour in 2021. Overall, Root scored 1022 runs in 13 Tests in India at a decent average of 42.58. His impressive record includes two centuries and five half-centuries, with a top score of 218.
