Joe Root has lifted the monkey off his back with his sensational innings in the first innings of the Ranchi Test. The batter was under a lot of pressure ahead of the match due to his poor outings but he made sure that he shuts up all the noise.

Opting to bat first, England were tumbling at 57/3 and it was then when Joe Root stepped up. The batter got slowly into the groove and once he was in he set the stage on fire and made India bowlers look clueless. He held the fort for his team while wickets kept tumbling at the other end.
