Rohit Sharma becomes 1st cricketer in history to achieve this unique milestone during Dharamsala Test

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma made history during the ongoing fifth and final Test match against England in Dharamsala. Rohit Sharma became the first outfield player (non-wicketkeeper) to achieve a unique catching milestone across all formats in international cricket.

England skipper Ben Stokes won the toss and opted to bat first at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Thursday, March 7. However, the visiting team failed to make the most of the decision, as they were bowled out for 218 runs in 57.4 overs.

Rohit Sharma Sets New Record In International Cricket

Rohit Sharma became the first outfield player to record 60 or more catches across all three cricket formats. The Indian skipper achieved the milestone by taking a brilliant catch off Mark Wood during Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling in the second session of Day 1.

The 36-year-old cricketer has recorded 60 catches in Test matches, 93 catches in One-Day Internationals (ODIs), and 60 catches in Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

Kuldeep Yadav Bags Five Wickets In England’s First Innings

England started strongly before suffering a collapse in the first innings. The visiting team lost their last seven wickets for just 43 runs. Apart from Zak Crawley, none of the other batters managed to surpass the 30-run mark, leading to their downfall on the first day.

Crawley led England’s batting with a solid 79 runs off 108 balls, featuring 11 boundaries and a six. Jonny Bairstow, playing in his 100th Test match, contributed a brisk 29 runs. However, skipper Ben Stokes failed to make an impact as he was dismissed without scoring.

On the opening day of the Test match, Kuldeep Yadav shone with his impressive five-wicket haul, conceding 72 runs in 15 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin, playing his 100th Test appearance, also played a crucial role by taking four wickets, restricting England’s tailenders.

In response, the home team got off to a good start with the bat as openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma added a 100-run partnership. However, Jaiswal was dismissed for 57 runs off Shoiab Bashir. At the time of writing, India is placed at 122-1 after 25 overs.

Team India seeks to conclude the five-match Test series against England on a positive note, having secured a commanding 3-1 lead. Following an initial setback in Hyderabad, India staged a remarkable comeback with victories in Visakhapatnam, Rajkot, and Ranchi.

For the final match, India made two alterations to their playing XI. Devdutt Padikkal earned his Test cap, replacing Rajat Patidar in the squad. Jasprit Bumrah rejoined the team after sitting out the previous game. Akash Deep failed to make it into the team despite his impressive bowling performance in his debut match.
