India National Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma has officially dropped a retirement confirmation, saying that the day he feels he is not good enough to continue he will step away from cricket.

Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India have dominated across all formats of the game. They recently hammered the Ben Stokes-led England National Cricket Team and registered a remarkable 4-1 Test series win on home soil.

The Rohit Sharma & Co. became the first-ever team to hand a Test series defeat to England in the Bazball era, which started after Ben Stokes took over as captain and Brendon McCullum was appointed as the head coach.

Notably, India were off to a poor start in the series as they faced a shocking 28-run loss in the Hyderabad Test. However, they made a remarkable comeback in the series and won the next four matches on the trot to humiliate the opposition. The hosts won by 106 runs, 434 runs, and 5 wickets in the next three Tests before registering a win by an innings and 64 runs to wrap up the series.

En route to the victory in the five-match Test series against the Three Lions, India became the first-ever team in history to win a series 4-1 after facing a defeat in the first Test.

After the match, a clip of Rohit Sharma’s interaction on JioCinema went viral on social media where he was seen speaking about his retirement.

The Indian captain said that he would straightaway retire from cricket the day he feels he is not good enough. However, Rohit Sharma also stated that he has been playing the best cricket of his life in the last few years, hence, retirement is not on the cards anytime soon.

“One day, when I wake up and feel, I am not good enough then I will retire straight away but in the last few years I am playing the best cricket of my life,” Rohit Sharma said on JioCinema.

We usually lose the first Test – Rohit Sharma

During the same interaction, Rohit Sharma also expressed his disappointment over India playing only a two-match Test series against the Proteas in South Africa in 2023 where the visitors won the second Test in a dominant fashion after losing the series opener. Rohit Sharma said:

“We usually lose the first Test and then we pick up in 2nd, 3rd, 4th Tests, so I was disappointed we played only 2 match Test series in South Africa.”

Meanwhile, after defeating England in the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma entered the elite list of Indian captains. He became just the 5th India captain to record 10 victories in the purest format of the game. Rohit joined the elite list that consists of Virat Kohli (40), MS Dhoni (27), Sourav Ganguly (21) and Mohammad Azharuddin (14).

Speaking to the host broadcaster after the win in the Dharamsala Test, Rohit Sharma expressed his happiness over the win and said:

“When you win a Test like this, everything has to fall in place. At some stage people are gonna come and we know that. These guys are maybe short of experience, they have played a lot of cricket and I can stand here and see that these guys responded pretty well under pressure. The credit goes to the entire team and it was pleasing to see.”
